Hello - I am a Gathings family researcher - Maggie is my grt grt aunt. I have a suggestion for her memorial. Maggie was married to Henry A. Winchester in Hill County Texas on 11 Nov 1877. Probably in Covington. Covington was founded by James Jackson Gathings. He was a 3rd or 4th cousin of Maggie's father, Charles W. Gathings. Maggie's mother was Mary Ann Scoggins. Her father's name was Charles W Gathings. Maggie was born Margaret C. Gathings. Her life began is 1859 in Sabine Parish, LA. After her father passed at some point between 1870 and 1877, their family moved to Covington, Hill County, Texas. Her mother Mary Ann had 8 children but lost one of them in LA during the same time frame as their father. This family appears on the 1860 and 1870 for Sabine Parish LA, the 1880 census for Hill County TX, and the 1900 census for Young County TX. Maggie and husband Henry Winchester are on the 1880 census for Collin County TX, then on later North Carolina state census,by 1900 census they are in Hempstead AK where some of Henry Winchester's family had moved to. Henry died there in 1904 - see Find A Grave Memorial# 81255675. Maggie moved back to Texas we thinkg to be close to her family who were over in Graham. Not sure why she settled in Elbert. Her brother Richard Gathings was there. But he passed away in 1904, same year as her husband Henry. Maybe she returned to Texas but Richard passed after she got there. Richard is my grt grandfather - Richard is buried there at Elbert but his grave site is unknown and possibly unmarked. We think he is either in an unmarked at the Elbert Cemetery or where the old baptist chuch was. Maggie mother Mary Ann and the rest of Maggie's siblings are buried at Oakgrove Cemetery in Graham. This family can be traced on the census and the father was Charles W. Gathings born about 1822/23 in Anson County No Carolina, moved with father John to TN, Charles followed the Scoggins family to Mississippi where he married Dec 1849 to a Scoggins daughter Mary Ann. After having their first 4 children in Mississippi they moved to LA. Then to Hill County TX and Young and Throckmorton as described previously. Was hoping you would be able to correct the father's name to Charles W Gathings. I am willing to send exact details and where you can find all the census. Thank you Gwen Gathings Armstrong
