Edwin Gregory Thompson, 80 of Paradise Valley, Arizona passed away on December 23, 2015.

He was born in Kansas City on March 18, 1935.

Ed graduated from Glennon Catholic high school in Kansas City. He had loved all sports and to this date has the record for the most points scored in a high school basketball game which was an amazing 41.

Edwin married to beautiful Gloria Long who was in the fashion industry, with Gloria by his side he Opened town and country home improvement, after building the company to become very successful he then sold the company and started Thompson properties real estate development company.

In the early 70s the National Hockey League was looking to expand and to add two teams to be able to create four divisions. Ed with his experience in real estate development seized the opportunity to help build Kemper Arena to bring the NHL franchise to Kansas City. Kansas City was awarded the franchise on June 8, 1972 and Kemper Arena was constructed. The arrival of the Kansas City Scouts resulted in the NHL creating four divisions. On October 9, 1970 the Scouts took the ice and Edwin had fulfilled his dream along with Kansas City. The Scouts were then sold to the city of Denver and renamed the Colorado Rockies. The team would play there for six years and then in 1982 the franchise relocated to the East Coast and today is the New Jersey Devils.

Ed was a member of the Gainey ranch country club and Paradise Valley country club and loved to play golf. Ed's biggest love was his wife Gloria for over 50 years, we believe Edwin passed on the 23rd to join her for Christmas.

Edwin was a very respected and loved husband and father and will be truly missed.

Edwin is survived by his son Gregory Martin Thompson, and his daughter Jeanne Marie Vitaro (Frank) and daughter Kimberly Louise Thompson, and two nephews Robert Leichter and James Leichter of Kansas City.

A Funeral service will be held on Tuesday December 29, 2015 from 11am, with visitation one hour prior at Messinger Indian School Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Rd, Scottsdale.
