Ruby Doris Wisehart Atkins Preston died October 22, 2014 at Bear Creek Nursing Home in Hudson, Florida.

Born on January 19, 1927 in Paris, Henry County, Tennessee, Ruby spent her formative years of schooling in Buchanan and Paris, Tennessee. Then the family moved to Murray, Kentucky where she graduated from Murray High School. She married Billy Ray Atkins, son of Tommie and Pauline Outland Atkins of Murray. When he was killed during World War II in St. Lo, France, she moved to Detroit, Michigan with her parents and worked for a well-known Detroit architect, Talmage C. Hughes, and then later at Ethyl Corporation as an administrative assistant.

While living in Detroit she met and married Wally Preston, son of Stanley and Florence Strzelecki Piestrzynski of Hamtramck, Michigan. After she and Wally retired, they moved to Hudson, Florida in 1979 and spent many happy years there.

Ruby recently celebrated 50 years in Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and was also a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy through her great grandfather, Pvt. Benjamin Laten Wisehart, Co G 5th Tennessee Infantry of Paris, TN.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, and her sisters Margaret Jean Wisehart Melugin Fulton Benz, and Patricia Ann Wisehart Zacheretti Shaffer.

She is survived by her husband Wally Preston of Hudson, FL; daughters Pamela (Don) Atkins Schmidt of Fort Wayne, IN, Cathy Preston Watters of Hudson, FL, and Susan (Stefan) Preston Owens of Tampa, FL; Grandchildren, J. Kurt (Anna) Schmidt of Fort Wayne, IN, J. Kraig (Rebecca) Schmidt of Alexandria, VA, Jason Watters of Los Angeles, CA, and Jon (Pam) Watters of Richmond, VA, Katie Owens and Clint Owens of Tampa, FL; Great granddaughters, Lauren Schmidt and Reagan Schmidt of Fort Wayne, IN, and Lena Watters of Hudson, FL; Cousin, Michael Freeland of Hopkinsville, KY; and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Hudson, FL on November 3, 2014 at 11am.
