Dothan Police Sgt. Jeff Garrett Collapses and Passes Away Today While On Duty

DOTHAN: This morning Dothan Police Sgt. Jeff Garrett was on duty and involved in physical training at Westgate Parkway and suddenly collapsed.

Fellow Dothan Officers Lt. Jason Penn and Lt. Racheal David were with Sgt. Garrett when he collapsed. Emergency Medical Assistance was called and both Lt. Penn and Lt. David worked on Sgt. Garrett attempting to save his life.

Dothan Fire Department was on the scene at Westgate Park within seconds. Emergency Medical Treatment was administered and Pilcher's Ambulance transported Sgt. Garrett to Flowers Hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival to the hospital.

The physical training is part of officer's daily shifts. The officers work 12 hours shifts each day. Part of the shift, when call volume allows, officers participate in training on duty. As part of their job they are required to remain physically fit.

Sgt. Garret was a fine person, father and husband, and a fine police officer.

Our prayers are to his family and to the members of the Dothan Police Department.
