NANCY L. (GRUPPO) TRAVIS

Nancy L. Travis, 93, of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, NY.

Born in Niagara Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Pasqualina (Bianco) Gruppo.

Aunt Nan, as she was affectionately known by her family, was a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School.

On November 27, 1947, she married Anthony Travis at St. Joseph Church in Niagara Falls. Mr. Travis predeceased her on June 13, 1988.

Nancy was a devout Catholic and longtime member of St. Joseph Church, as well as their Anime Sante Del Purgatorio Society. She was also a member of their choir for over 50 years.

Nancy had a passion for music and was a talented singer. In the 1940s, she and her sister, Connie, known as "The Gruppo Sisters," performed alongside the Hal Palumbo Trio regularly on WHLD radio. Nancy was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening. She also loved to golf in her younger years. Above all, Aunt Nan will be remembered as a very gentle, loving woman who was a caretaker to all.

Mrs. Travis is survived by one brother, Neil (Mary) Gruppo of Lewiston, NY; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her six sisters, Josephine "Jay" (late Roche "Rocky") Caprio, Dolores "Dee" (late Joseph) Brigante, Bessie (late Peter) Nicosia, Constance "Connie" (John of Lewiston, NY) Barber, Marion (late Richard) Buscemi, Mae (late Louis) Trapasso; and one brother, Daniel (late Lillian) Gruppo.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 28th from 3-7 PM at the M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Family and friends are invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Wednesday, October 29th at 10:00 AM in Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. EVERYONE PLEASE ASSEMBLE AT CHURCH.

Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery, Niagara Falls, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to United Cerebral Palsy Association, 9812 Lockport Road, Niagara Falls, NY 14304.
