She taught her husband to fish, a pastime they enjoyed together with family. There was usually a friendly fishing competition for the first, the biggest and the most. One of Shirley and Jack’s favorite activities was celebrating their July 4th wedding anniversary with family fishing on Yellowstone Lake, dinner in Lake Hotel and watching the parade.
Never thinking she would be a grandmother, one of the happiest moments of her life was when Jack and Laurie married and brought Peter and Casey into her life. These grandsons provided her with many days of happiness.
She was a very caring person, applying the golden rule and putting others before herself, especially her family, friends and any child. She realized the importance of volunteerism and enjoyed her St. Vincent Pink Lady and church activities in the late 1960s and early 1970s. She provided babysitting, food, haircuts, listening ears, etc. with love. She enjoyed sewing, knitting and crocheting. Afghans were her specialty, gifting many to family and friends. She liked many card games and looked forward to playing bridge with various card groups until dementia prevented it.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Jack; her daughter, Barbara Jean; her parents, Anna (Rath) and Charlie Petersen; and sister, Edna Mae Bollmeier.
