Billy Joe Wilkins, age 61, of Shalimar, Fla., passed away Friday, Oct. 24, 2014, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. He was born Feb. 1, 1953, in DeFuniak Springs, Fla. Billy was a faithful member of Shalimar United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Alpha Lodge #172 of Free and Accepted Masons in Fort Walton Beach and in his spare time he enjoyed drag racing, fishing, and spending time with his boys.
Billy is preceded in death by his father, Clifford Wilkins and mother-in-law, Jean Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Terri Smith Wilkins; two sons, Justin Sharon of Laurel Hill, Fla., and Rickey Sharon of Niceville, Fla.; mother, Inez Wilkins; grandson, Channer Sharon; sister, JoAnn Plaster and husband, Mike of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Ricky Smith of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., and Tim Smith and wife Sharon of Shalimar, Fla.; and numerous extended family.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at Shalimar United Methodist Church, 1 Old Ferry Road, Shalimar, Florida 32579, beginning at 11 a.m. with Reverend Phillip McVay officiating. A time of visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Committal services will follow at Svea Cemetery. Flowers are being accepted.
