The following was provided my Marjorie McMurray Foreman:
Hollis H. Bond, Sr., age 88, was born September 27, 1925, in Cooper, Texas, to his parents, Beulah Reynolds and Luther Max Bond and passed away July 19, 2014. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dorothy Burleson Bond; and his children, Hollis Harold Bond, Jr., Philip Lowell Bond, and Beverly Bond Deacon. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Earl Bond, and his brother, Jerry Bond. Hollis is also survived by his sisters, Freda Hoover, Pattie Phillips, Jamie Bond and Linda Tucker; and his brothers Lane Bond and Bennie Bond. Surviving grandchildren include Rachel Bond McDonough, David Bond, Holly Ann Looper, Aundrea Deacon, Marissa Deacon and Lydia Deacon. Hollis Harold Bond graduated Hardin-Simmons University and Southwestern Theological Seminary, and served in the US Navy Chaplain Corps, retiring as Captain. His military medals include Bronze Star with V for Valor, WWII Victory Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Presidential Unit Citation, Navy Unit Citation, Republic of Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, and Republic of Vietnam Presidential Citation. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He served three tours of duty in Vietnam with 3rd Marine Division, earning 9 campaign stars. Hollis took great pride in baptizing 123 men in Vietnam using rivers, rice paddies and artillery shell craters. Hollis also served at his home church, Fielder Road Baptist Church in Arlington in different capacities. He also served as Chaplain at the National Cemetery.
