She retired from the clinic in New Castle in 1981 where she had worked as a Registered Nurse for over 20 years. Lela was a member of Spiceland Methodist Church and a home economics club. She was a volunteer for RSVP and enjoyed knitting, especially making clothing for premature infants.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha (William) Wheeler of Indianapolis and Helen (Richard) Parker of Greenfield; a son, Harold (Rita) Wiley of Indianapolis; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Martha Bernice Critser of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years; Forrest Byard Wiley in 2006; and a great-granddaughter, Nicole Marie Wheeler.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 29,2014 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Services in New Castle. Burial will follow in Presbyterian Union Cemetery, near Greenburg.
