Sergeant Hughes passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at his home in Lawton.
Burial with full military honors will be in the Post Cemetery, Fort Sill.
He was born February 2, 1956 in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was raised in Spartanburg and joined the US Army on June 28, 1978 at Fort Jackson, SC. He retired June 30, 1998 at Fort Sill, OK. He earned the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal – 6th award, Army Good Conduct Medal – 6th award, National Defense Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal – 2bronze stars, Non-Commissioned Professional Development Ribbon – 3, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon- 3, and Expert Marksmanship Badge –Rifle bar.
He married Patricia Childs on July 22, 1985 in Junction City, KS. Clarence was an avid fisherman, enjoyed watching cartoons, and loved watching football, especially the San Francisco 49ers.
He is survived by his wife Patricia of the home, four children, Jermaine Hughes of Spartanburg, SC, Kevin Hughes of OKC, OK, Keenan Childs of Cincinnati, OH, Shontea Beltran of Junction City, KS, four grandchildren, Destiney Rowell and husband Michael of Junction City, KS, Darius Childs of Cincinnati, OH, Azzuri Childs of Cincinnati, OH, Antoine Hughes of Spartanburg, SC, two great grandchildren, Aaryana Childs and Mason Rowell both of Junction City, KS, and two sisters, Allene Geter and Dorothy Smith, both of Spartanburg, SC.
He was preceded by his parents and numerous other relatives.
