Rev. Joe Allen Barrett, 72, resident of High Point, died October 25th, 2014 at his residence.

Mr. Barrett was born September 13th, 1942 in Barrow County, GA, a son to the late Joe Lee and Elizabeth Sue Nix Barrett.

Rev. Barrett spent over 35 years in the ministry and also was a strong advocate for Christian Education.

Most recently, he was a member of Shady Grove Wesleyan and pastored at Community Fellowship but had also taught and pastored at several different churches during his career.

During his time in Georgia, he became a lifelong fan of the Atlanta Braves and Georgia Bulldogs. He also loved reading studying and the perfect cup of coffee.

In 1967, he married the former Charlotte Turner who survives of the residence.

In addition to his parents, he was also receded in death by a brother, James Barrett.

Also surviving are two daughters whom he loved dearly, Denise (Elliott) Linhoss of Martin, TN and Gloria (Brannon) Hancock of Marion, IN; a sister, Dotty Gunby of Winder. GA; and four special grandchildren, Barrett, Andrew, Joseph and Cecilia.

Visitation will be form 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Cumby Family Funeral Service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the Cumby Family Funeral Service in High Point with Rev. Ray Thomas, Rev. Elliott Linhoss, Rev. Dr. Brannon Hancock and Rev. Joe Gunby officiating.

Interment will be at Pentecost United Methodist Church in Winder, GA on Thursday.
