At the residence of this son-in-law, Wm. McFie, on First St., Hon. James H. Pinkerton, aged 78, died at 9:30 last night after a lingering illness from Bright's disease.

In the passing of Mr. Pinkerton, Colorado loses one of its pioneers. He settled in this state in the spring of 1859, and in the summer of 1860 brought his family across the plains by wagon, and they took up their residence near Golden City. They later removed to the Big Thompson river in Weld County, and also spent several years on the Cache la Poudre above where Windsor now stands. He was an extensive and successful stockraiser.

Mr. Pinkerton was recognized for his executive ability among the early pioneers and when the capital was removed from Golden to Denver, represented his district as senator. He was a great personal friend of Senator Henry M. Teller and Lieut. Gov. Brush of Greeley. He was county judge of La Plata county in 1879 and 80. Deceased was born in Tennessee and during his life was closely identified with the Masonic fraternity.

The body will be shipped to Coulterville, Ill., for interment by the side of Mrs. Pinkerton whose death occurred several years ago.
