Mrs. Ruth Akerman, 69, of 424 W. 15th died Thursday morning at a local hospital. She had been in failing health for several months. Services will be Monday at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Revs. F. Hauser Winter and Larry Davis will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 p.m. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to the church or to the American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Ackerman was born June 13, 1910, at Hedrick, Iowa, to Arthur and Estella Palmer Millikin. She received her education at Fremont, Iowa, and at the University of Northern Iowa. She then taught grade school in Iowa. On July 12, 1936, she married Harold Akerman at Oskaloosa, Iowa. They lived in Fremont, Iowa. In 1958 they moved to Grand Island. Mrs. Akerman was a member of Trinity Methodist Church and its women's groups. She was affiliated with the Order of the Eastern Star at Fremont, Iowa, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Richard of Golden, Colo, and Douglas of Hickman; a daughter, Mrs. Kay Schwieger of Elberton, Ga.; a brother, Dwight Millikin of Hedrick, Iowa; two sisters, Helen Lake and Beatrice Millikin, both of Fremont, Iowa, and four granddaughters. She was preceded in death by three brothers.
