HARTLAND, VT Phyllis M. Bowers, 93, a longtime resident of Hartland, passed away Tuesday morning, March 28 at the Mt. Ascutney Hospital and Health Center in Windsor. She was born April 29, 1923 in Fayston, VT the daughter of Henry V. and Grace (Goodell) Farnsworth. She received her schooling in Hartland and Windsor and attended Windsor High School. She married James A. Bowers in Windsor on February 14, 1940. Phyllis worked outside of the home doing many things, always a person to take care of others from Norwich to Springfield, VT. She also was employed at area nursing homes in Woodstock and Norwich, and did private home care. Mrs. Bowers enjoyed wallpapering and painting for neighbors and friends and taught her children the art of wallpapering and painting. She was fond of knitting, sewing, quilting and counted cross-stitching. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an active member of the Hartland First Congregational Church, where she was a leader of the famous roast beef suppers and had baked pies for many years. She was also a life member of the Hartland American Legion Post #48 Auxiliary and the Hartland PTA. She was active in the Hartland 4-H where she enjoyed teaching sewing to children for several years. She was a member of the Battle of the Bulge Tri State Chapter #17 of VT, NH and ME. She enjoyed flowers, gardening and attending to the birds. She was predeceased by her parents, one daughter, Betsy Bowers in 1946, one son, James A. Bowers, Jr. in 2012, two brothers, Wayne Farnsworth and Frederick Farnsworth and by three sisters, Una McLaughlin, Therma Willey and Shirley Davidson. Survivors include her loving and devoted husband of seventy seven years, James A. Bowers of Hartland, one daughter, Linda Busch and her husband, Fred of West Windsor, two sons, Herbert H. Bowers and his wife, Ines of Farwell, MI, and Eric L. Bowers and his companion, Pamela Hanan of Hartland, one brother, Hayward Farnsworth of Ascutney, VT, nine grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, one great great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.

Burial will be in the Hartland Village Cemetery.
