Jesse Augustus Barr Jr., 74, died Tuesday at his home in Foster. He was born Feb. 10, 1932, in San Mateo, Calif., to Jesse A. Barr and Mary Ethel Barr.

He moved with his family to the Crawfordsville area in 1940. He graduated from Sweet Home High School in 1949. He served in the Coast Guard from 1952 until 1960. Jesse married Sara Clark in 1958 and had three children. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service about 30 years, serving in Portland, Klamath Falls, South Dakota, Arizona, Idaho and Alaska. He retired to the Sweet Home area in 1986.

He was a mover and a shaker and couldn't sit still, so he worked at Oregon State University in the maintenance department until his final retirement. Mr. Barr volunteered a great deal of time in the community, serving on the East Linn Museum board, Crawfordsville Union Cemetery board, senior citizens board, Meals on Wheels, and installing and maintaining Life Line units. He was always willing to help when anyone called.

He was preceded in death by his second wife, Sally Barr, in 2003. Survivors include his present wife, Leita Seibert-Barr; son Dale and daughter-in-law Diane Barr in Klamath Falls; son Kris and daughter-in-law Kelli Barr in Portland; daughter Lynda Devery in Clackamas; grandchildren Bryon Bradshaw, Sara Bradshaw, Crystal Perry, Katrina Devery and Matthew Barr; and great-grandson Malachi Ahamed.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Sweet Home Evangelical Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the East Linn Museum.
