Mrs. Susan A. Metcalf, 87, died in Kalispell Friday morning. She was born October 5, 1891 in the community of LaSalle in Flathead County, a daughter of John and Theresa (Benfield) McGregor, early pioneers of the Flathead. Mrs. Metcalf's parents moved to the Flathead Valley in 1885. They also lived in the Bitterroot Valley two years before settling in the LaSalle Community. They came from Minnesota by covered wagon. The railroad came to Kalispell a few years after they arrived here.
She received her schooling at the Half Moon School. She grew to womanhood and has spent her entire life as a resident of the Flathead Valley. She was a longtime member of the LaSalle, Birch Grove, Helena Flats Home Demonstration Club; the Central Christian Church; the Farm Women's Market, and the Senior Citizens Groups.
In 1911, she married Virgil P. Metcalf. The couple farmed at and near the LaSalle Community.
Mrs. Metcalf was preceded in death by her husband on August 23, 1956.
She is now survived by one son, V. Bernard Metcalf of Kalispell; two daughters, H. Betty Day of Kalispell and Gertrude E. Street of Boise, Idaho; one sister, Gertrude Clifton, Little Rock, Arkansas; nine grandchildren; and six great grand-children. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
