Son of Samuel Crutchley (1853 Stoke on Trent, Hanley, Staffordshire-1901? Stoke on Trent) & Ann Theresa Lofty (1854 Hanley) who were married in the spring of 1871. Annie was the daughter of John Lofty (1825 Norwich Norfolk) and Mary Dandy (1827 Ireland). Samuel was the son of Euphrates Crutchley (1829? Hanley-1876 Stoke on Trent) and Martha Burgess Jervis (chr Jan 5 1829 Hanley, born Shelton, Staffordshire). Euphrates was the son of Thomas and Mary Crutchley, christened on May 12 1831 in Hanley. Thomas may have been the son of Thomas and Hannah Crutchley christened on December 26 1802 at Stoke upon Trent. There was a marriage of Thomas Critchlow and Hannah Barker on December 30 1899 in Cheadle, Stafford. Martha was the daughter of Thomas Burgess (died 1841) and Maria Hassell (died before 1841). Maria was the daughter of William (1781) and Hannah or Harriet Hassell. Martha Burgess Jervis? Crutchley was raised by her grandparents.


Fred was the husband of Celia Swift. They were married in St. Peter's Church in Hartshorne, Derbyshire on December 20 1902. The marriage was registered in Ashby de la Zouch Leicestershire. Celia was the daughter of George Hackett Swift and Rebecca Nurse. Rebecca was the daughter of Henry Nurse and Susan of West Dereham, Norfolk.

He was the father of William Frederick Crutchley and Hilda Clara Crutchley Banks.

He worked in pottery and glass manufacturing. In October of 1919 Fred immigrated to Montreal, Canada. He stated that his final destination was Trenton, New Jersey and that his father Samuel had paid his passage. Cecilia, William, and Hilda crossed from Canada to Rouse's Point, New York on Christmas Eve in 1919. In April of 1910, Fred, Celia, and William had sailed to Boston on the ship Megantic. He stated that his closest relative was his brother John Crutchley of '4 Justice Road, Fishponds, Bristol.'

Fred died in St. Clair Memorial Hospital. Fred was widowed and his usual residence was with his son's family in Bridgeville. He had just celebrated his 84th birthday.

Fred died of renal failure due to pyelonephritis. His funeral was held at 1:30pm on March 14 at the Davis-Weaver Funeral Home in Clarksburg. Rev. Samuel Glass officiated and Mrs. Helen Robb was the organist. His pallbearers were members of the Hermon Lodge #6 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.
