He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.
On October 18, 2003 he married Linda Dussault Hamel in Hollis.
In his younger days Douglas owned and operated a bookstore in Ohio and was a comic book collector. He also worked in Ohio as a Furniture and Mattress sales consultant with the Lazarus stores (aka Macy's). He moved to Maine in 1998 and continued his career at Macy's. With his wife, Linda, they founded the Gliding Gaits Horse Farm and Boarding Stable in Hollis, where he enjoyed spending time puttering on the farm completing his "honey-do" list!

Visiting Hours will be 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Hope Memorial Chapel 480 Elm Street, Biddeford, ME 04005. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale to be announced at a later date.
