There is an unknown burial for Reta Memorial# 125968930

Her ashes are With Anna her mom & Sharon kay Harsin her sister that is on her headstone with her.

Link to her parents have not been made due to duplicate unknown burial being linked.

Headstone is incorrect as far as birth year. Should say 1911. As the headstone shows that she died before she was born. And per policy Memorial is supposed to match headstone, however, I am unable to do that to her memorial due to not being able to make her death date before her birth date.

Reta L. Smith, 99, a former Baker County resident, died April 9, 2011, at Florence, Montana

Reta was born Nov. 17, 1911, at Medical Springs to George and Anna (Lane) Harsin.

Reta was raised on Muddy Creek which is just outside of Haines, Baker County, Oregon. She attended Baker High School. She was united in marriage in 1928 to Marin (Merl) Smith in 1928. They lived on Muddy Creek and then near Medical Springs. They were divorced in 1950.

Reta worked several different jobs throughout her life, a telephone exchange operator, postmaster, grocery checker, restaurant cook and restaurant owner. She was very self-sufficient woman, and so she was able to provide for her family and others through hard work and selfless love.

Reta's favorite pastime was helping others, particularly taking care of children. Whether it was her kids, or a neighbor's kid, it didn't matter, and they were all provided for at "Grandma's" house.

She was still taking care of children at the age of 91, before she moved to Montana. She traveled from Oregon to Arizona, to Alaska, and to Washington in order to care for, and help out, members of her family. Reta was of pioneer stock and was self-reliant until she was 97. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking and crocheting. Flowers never failed to bring her joy.

Reta other family members are
Her Daughter Vernuel Powell who lives in Vancouver, Washington

Her sister Leila Svendsen who lives in Seattle, Washington

She was also blessed with the following grandchildren
Bob (Cindy) Ensminger of Lolo, Montana
Crystal (Ray) Hurbi of Fairbanks, Alaska
Daryl Ensminger of Fairbanks, Alaska
Glen Menges of Greenville, North Carolina
Allen (Michelle) Yerkes of Eagle River, Alaska

She also had numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren whom she loved and talked about to her last day. She loved all her children, "one and all the same," she would say.
