Billy Acton, 82, of Amarillo died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014.

Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Military rites are provided by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 430. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Billy was born Nov. 5, 1931, in Hunter, Ark., to Birtis Acton and Rachel Reneau. He married Kathryn Mae Davis on Oct. 17, 1951.

After graduating from Amarillo High School, Billy joined the Marine Corps in February 1949. He served during the Korean War and peacetime. Acton was a proud member of the VFW Post No. 4818 and served as post commander for two years.

Billy and Kathy loved being around their children, teaching them to dance, play sports and win at poker. Most of all, they taught their family the value of family togetherness; to love and rely on each other and create good times.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Acton; and a son, Billy Acton Jr.

Survivors include his children, Lorraine “Tootie” and Jim Sandoval of Hereford, Barry Acton of Amarillo and Cindy Acton and Kim Judd, both of Lubbock; his grandchildren, BD Acton Ware, Lizzie and Bryan Mason, Kara Daniel, Blake Acton, Brody Acton and Marlar John Acton, all of Amarillo, and Chad Sandoval of Jonesboro, Ark.; his great-grandchildren, Bryson Ware, Payton Ware, Gabrielle Mason, Caroline Mason, Faith Underwood, Brayden Daniel and Corie Acton, all of Amarillo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to West Texas A&M University, The Greater Texas Foundation, Kathryn Davis Acton, RN Removing Educational Barriers Scholarship, P.O. Box 60766 Canyon, TX 79016; or call Faith Hoelscher 806-651-2645.
