Sept. 26, 1914 — March 23, 2006

William A. Welder, 92, of Vancouver, Wash., died Thursday at Fort Vancouver Convalescent Center.

He was born in Westwood, Calif., the eldest of four children to Albert and Myrtle Welder. After graduation from Westwood High School, Bill obtained his bachelor's degree in forestry engineering from Oregon State University in 1937. He returned to Westwood and worked for Red River Lumber Company. In 1945, he moved to Burney, Calif., and worked for Fruit Growers Supply Company as the forest land manager for its Northern California holdings. He retired in 1980 after 34 years with the company.

Bill was a charter member of the Burney Lions Club and was active in the Burney Volunteer Fire Department and Burney Boosters Club. Bill also served on the Shasta County Planning Commission. He enjoyed reloading ammunition for target shooting, photography, reading, fishing and traveling with his wife, Veva. He especially enjoyed frequent visits from friends and family.

Survivors include sister Elizabeth Cozart of Anderson, Calif.; daughters Elizabeth Lynne Ross of Tacoma, Wash., Jane Hull of Vancouver, Wash., and Kathy L. Donaldson of Campbell River, British Columbia, Canada; grandchildren Steve, Susan, Gretchen, Heidi, Jennifer and Rob; and five great-grandchildren.

Bill was preceded in death by wife Veva, and brothers Burton and Ross Welder.
