Carol Odom Fletcher, of Germantown, died Friday, October 24th, 2014. She was the daughter of the late G.R. Odom and Allene Lewis Odom and was preceded in death by her high school and college sweetheart and husband of 50 years, Riner Jay Fletcher, and beloved daughter, Lisa Fletcher Branim (Steve).

She leaves loving son, Andy Fletcher (Andrea) and grandson, Drew Fletcher of Olive Branch, MS; and brother, Danny Odom (Dana) of Southaven, MS, and two nieces. She was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church.

She was an honor graduate of South Side High School and the University of Memphis where she earned her Bachelor of Business Administration degree, was Treasurer of Sigma Kappa Sorority, and later served as President of its Alumnae Chapter. She was chosen for the National Business Education Award of Merit as Most Promising Future Business Teacher, named to Tassel/Mortar Board, senior women’s scholastic honorary group, and Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities.

While completing her Master of Education degree plus 45 post graduate hours in Computer Education at the University of Memphis, she was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, superior university scholarship honor society; Delta Pi Epsilon, graduate business education honor fraternity; and Kappa Delta Pi, education honor society.

She retired after 35 years teaching Business Information Technology in Memphis City Schools where she served as Business Department Chairperson, Sponsor of the National Technical Honor Society, and Business Professionals of America. She was nominated for Rotary Club Teacher of the Year and named to Who’s Who Among American Educators.

After retiring, she enjoyed serving as Secretary of the Aintree Farms Community/Garden Club, listening to classical music, and watching sports; but her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

The Family will receive friends on Monday, October 27th, 2014, from 5-7 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 28th at 1 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Poplar with interment to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
