Emma Fay Crull was the daughter of Charles Monroe Crull and Alma Augusta Bosworth. She had five sisters and three brothers.

Emma was the biological mother of Otto J Crull; she gave him up for adoption on 19 Feb 1906 to Otto and Martha Penner of St. Louis, MO. The adoption papers lists her as a single woman and mother. Although not listed in the adoption document, Nicholas James Baxter was the biological father as stated on Otto's birth certificate. Emma and Nicholas were not married.

Emma married John Edward Hensler on 26 Oct 1922 in Leavenworth, Kansas.

The 1925 Kansas State census has her living with John Hensler as head of household, Emma is listed as wife, and her brother, Frank Crull, is listed as brother-in-law (of John Hensler).
