Gladys M. Farley, 94, passed away peacefully Wednesday (September 21, 2011) at McAuley Manor on her 94th Birthday.

Born in Hornellsville, September 21, 1917, the daughter of Floy A. and Della L. (Gravell) Preston, she was a lifelong area resident, graduating from Almond Union School “Class of 1935” as Salutatorian. She married Donald P. Farley who predeceased her in 1984. Gladys was retired from the former A&P Markets retiring in 1979 with 27 years of service. She was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish and communicant of St Ann’s Church, a member of the Meat Cutters of America Local # 1 Union, the Almond Historical Society, and was a former member of the Catholic Daughters. Gladys enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, flowers, and photography.

She was predeceased by her parents, husband Donald, a sister Kathryn Friscina and a brother Kenneth Preston.

She is survived by 3 children Floyd P. (Betsey) Farley of Hornell, Donna J. (Bob) Williams of Hamimondsport, Dolores HerrNeckar of Hornell, 4 grandchildren Darryl (Jamie) Williams, Kelly (Dean) Wightman, Kristina (Jim) Cutter, Terri Jo HerrNeckar, a sister Helen Preston Ross of Hornell, 5 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, nieces, and nepews.

The family will be present 4-8PM Friday, September 23, 2011, at the Bender - Brown & Powers Funeral Home, 354 Canisteo St, Hornell. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Ann’s Church on Saturday at 9:00am. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Fremont.
