Major League Baseball Player. The New York Yankees right-hander, signed off the campus of Yale University in 1933, made a big splash a year later when he pitched a three-hitter in his debut and a one-hitter in his next outing. He was 12-9 with a 4.16 earned run average and 13 complete games in 24 starts as a rookie. He followed that with 15-7, a 3.58 ERA for 201 innings pitched and 14 complete games. In 1936, he worked 206 innings while compiling a 12-7 record, a 4.24 ERA and 12 complete games. It was during that season he would disappear without any explanation. He did the same thing the following season. The Yankees, who preferred a pitcher who made the opposing batters vanish, placed him on the suspended list. He didn't pitch at all in 1938 and finished his career with Cleveland in 1939, pitching in 22 games and going 4-2. His career totals were 44-29, a 4.08 ERA and 42 complete games in 86 starts.
