TUSCALOOSA | Doris Humphrey Blankenship, age 79, of Tuscaloosa, died October 22, 2014, at Hospice of West Alabama. Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 28, 2014, at Heritage Chapel Funeral Home with Rev. Dan Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow in Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with Heritage Chapel Funeral Home & Cremations, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be Tuesday from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Jackson Blankenship; parents, Marvin E. and Margie C. Humphrey; and brother, Eldon Humphrey.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol Blankenship Jackson (Harry) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; son, Robert Stephen Blankenship (Lucy) of Lilburn, Ga.; grandchildren, Robert Stephen Blankenship, Jr. (Malena) of Acworth, Ga., Karen Lynn Blankenship of Kennesaw, Ga., Martha Ellen Jackson of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Harry Christopher Jackson, Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; and daughter-in-law, Julie Blankenship of Kennesaw, Ga.
Doris Humphrey Blankenship was born on January 21, 1935 in Kellerman, Alabama. Before graduating from Brookwood High School in 1953, Doris was a cheerleader and a member of the marching band. She married the love of her life, Harold Jackson "Jack" Blankenship, on June 5, 1954. Doris devoted her life to raising her family and being a special friend to many. She enjoyed volunteering at DCH Regional Medical Center and engaging in fellowship as a part of the Lee Class at First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa.
Pallbearers will be Donald Townsend, Dr. Samuel Gambrell, Robert Stephen Blankenship, Robert Stephen Blankenship, Jr., Harry Christopher Jackson, Jr., and Harry Christopher Jackson.
Honorary pallbearers are Mr. and Mrs. Donald Townsend, Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Gambrell, Mr. and Mrs. Murphy Judice, Iris Jo Mallett, Vaudie Hallman, Pat Bradburn, Keith Green, Ken Dunivant, Ethelyn Stuhr, Dan Kilgore, Past and present members of the Lee Class, First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa, Members of the Brookwood High School Alumni Association, Kendra Barnes, Bobby and Stephanie Buffaloe, Staff and caregivers of Home Instead Senior Care, Terry Dillard, Dave Wilks, Dr. William Barton, Dr. George Miller, Dr. David Warren, Doctors, nurses and staff of Tuskaloosa Internal Medicine, Nurses and staff of Heritage Health Care and Rehab, especially those at Station 2, Nurses, and staff and volunteers of Hospice of West Alabama.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church of Tuscaloosa Pipe Organ Fund or Hospice of West Alabama.
