Politician, businessman. Former Florida State Senator and State Representative, known for his leadership as Chairman of the Republican Party from 1993-1999. First elected to the State House of Representatives in 1962, elected to the State Senate in 1966, served as Chairman of the Florida Tax and Budget Commission in 1990. Born in Albany, Georgia and grew up in Kingsley Lake, Clay County, Florida. Educated in the local public schools, attended college at Emory at Oxford, graduated from Southern Tech in 1957. A successful Jacksonville businessman, Slade owned and operated several propane gas companies in northeast Florida (1957-1970), Founder and CEO of Tidewater Consulting.
