Cam back and finished school at East Central State Teachers College. He taught for 12 years, then 8 years as County Assessor of Beckham County, and then 8 years as State Senator from this same county. In April 1954 he filed for Secretary of State and was elected to that office by a large majority
He served as the Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Oklahoma in 1954-1955. He also served as the local secretary-recorder of the Elk City Masonic bodies for a total of 32 years.
