Son of Rev. Ambrose Smith (Jul 9, 1820 - Oct 3, 1962) and Cynthia Maria Egerton (Jan 2, 1821 - Apr 8, 1899). He was a descendant of Gov. William Bradford of the Mayflower via his mother's father, Ariel Egerton (1789–1859). Husband of Dora M Rogers (Nov 1857 - Jan 30, 1935).

Lyndon Ambrose Smith was an attorney general and the 15th Lieutenant Governor of Minnesota. Born in Boscawen, New Hampshire, he moved to Minnesota and served as Lieutenant Governor under Governors John Lind and Samuel Van Sant from January 3, 1899 to January 5, 1903. He was appointed Assistant Attorney General in 1909 and served as the 14th Attorney General from 1912 until his death in 1918.
