Paul Eastace Shaver, 87, widower of Doris Marie (Roadcap) Shaver of Fishersville Road and formerly of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014, in King’s Daughters Community Health and Rehabilitation Center in Staunton.
Mr. Shaver was born on May 20, 1927, in Fishersville, a son of the late Gaylord Goodell and Georgia (Moore) Shaver.
Paul attended Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church. He was retired as a Regional Sales Manager from Allstate Insurance Company, he then enjoyed many years as a bus driver for the Roanoke and Augusta County Schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country proudly during WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr. Shaver was a member of the Fishersville Ruritan Club, he enjoyed teaching Sunday school in Roanoke, ministering in the Roanoke County Jails, was a member of Preston Yancy Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, and will be also remembered for his involvement with Fishersville Boy Scout Troop 11.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Shaver was preceded in death by a son, Robert Paul “Bobby” Shaver; three brothers; and one sister.
He is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Mr. Shaver is survived by a daughter and caregiver, Brenda Shaver of Fishersville; a son, Scott Shaver and wife Cynthia of Salem; a grandson, Kelsey Shaver of San Diego and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2014, in the Tinkling Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery by Rev. Tully Hunter and Pastor Merle Fisher.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
