Services for Laverne (Thompson) Turner, 89, of Lufkin, will be held in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fielder Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Turner was born April 26, 1925 in Angelina County and died Oct. 22, 2014 in Lufkin.

Mrs. Turner was a lifetime resident of Angelina County. She was a checker at Brookshire Brothers for 13 years. She enjoyed quilting and attended the quilt guild. Mrs. Turner was a member of the Lufkin First Church of the Nazarene. She cherished her church family and activities.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Ricky and Debbie Turner; daughters and son-in-law, Sherry Lowery, and Vickie and Pat Rushing; grandchildren, Connie Quick and husband Daniel, Stacey Lowery, Patty Roze and Leslie Omelina and husband Jason; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, D. and Pauline Thompson; sister-in-law, Betty Bell; best friend, Madell Christopher; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vance P. Turner; sisters, Billie Garbakewitz and Neva Blackburn; brothers and sisters-in-law, Veachel and Elma Lee Thompson and Chancey “Chic” and Yvonne Thompson; and grandson-in-law, Leo Roze.
