WASHINGTON, Ind. - Esther (Smiley) Hastings, 96, of Evanston, Ill., formerly of Washington, died at 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hospice Northshore in Evanston.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Washington and Fourth Presbyterian Church in Chicago.
She graduated from Washington High School in 1917, Northwestern University in 1924 and Indiana University. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Kappa and Kappa Alpha Theta sororities.
Surviving are two sons, William Elmer Hastings of Libertyville, Ill., and James Roland Hastings of Alexandria, Va.; and a granddaughter, Nicole Suzanne Hastings.
Her husband, John Simpson Hastings, died in 1977.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. EST Thursday at Oak Grove Cemetery.
There will be no visitation at Gill Funeral Home Chapel.
