Lower Burrell
Robert W. Fern, 54, of Lower Burrell died at 4:19 a.m. Sunday (Feb. 3, 2002) in UPMC Presbyterian, Pittsburgh.
Born April 29, 1947, in New Kensington, he lived in the Valley most of his life.
He was a 1966 graduate of Burrell High School, Lower Burrell.
A veteran, he served in Vietnam with the Navy, receiving a Purple Heart, Vietnam War Ribbon, National Service Ribbon and Navy Cross.
He worked at Cuyahoga National Parks, Cuyahoga County, Ohio, and at Kennedy Center, Washington, D.C.
Mr. Fern was a member of St. Mary of Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church, New Kensington, Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lower Burrell and Seventh Street Sportsmen's Club, New Kensington.
He enjoyed participating in Civil War re-enactments, and was involved with the film, "Gods and Generals."
Survivors include his mother, Mary J. Pencheck Fiorina of Lower Burrell; three brothers, Barry Fiorina of Plum, David Fern of Virginia and Steven Fiorina of Odenton, Md.; and three sisters, Jean Protzek of Plum, Margaret Bramfeld of the state of California and Tina Protzek of Springdale.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bert Fiorina.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in GIUNTA FUNERAL HOME, INC., 1509 Fifth Ave., Arnold, where prayers of transfer will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. in St. Mary Church, New Kensington, by the Rev. Richard Karenbauer. Burial will be in Greenwood Memorial Park, Lower Burrell.
