Terry Lee McElroy, 64, of Catalpa Road, Chicora, Donegal Township, died shortly after midnight Tuesday at his home, surrounded by his family.
Terry was born on June 19, 1947, in Bradys Bend. He was the son of S. Wallace "Toot" and Armeda Heginbotham McElroy.
Terry was a Methodist. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, tinkering and fixing things. He most especially enjoyed the company of his grandchildren.
He was a 1965 graduate of East Brady High School. He was first employed by Pullman Standard in Butler for more than 16 years and retired after 25 years of service with the Housing Authority of Butler County. He also worked for a number of years as the custodian for the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served aboard the USS Enterprise from 1965 to 1969. He was a life member of the Parker VFW Post 7073 and a longtime member of the Chicora Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife, Frances M. Rattigan McElroy, who he married on Oct. 8, 1977, at the Mater Dolorosa Roman Catholic Church in Chicora. Also surviving are three daughters; seven grandchildren; a brother, and a sister; as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Benjamin and Elizabeth Rattigan, as well as two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.
MCELROY - Friends of Terry Lee McElroy, who died Tuesday, April 3, 2012, will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Road, Chicora, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Glenn Kohlhepp, pastor of the Karns City United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment with full military honors accorded by the Chicora American Legion and VFW posts and the Bradys Bend American Legion Post will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, North Oakland.
Contributions in Terry's memory may be made to the Chicora Volunteer Fire Department, Box F, Chicora, PA 16025.
