The funeral was held at the First Baptist Church, Sylvania, with the Rev. Lamar Holley officiating and burial in the Screven County Memorial Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson was a native of Screven County, a member of the First Baptist Church, Sylvania, and a veteran of World War II in the U. S. Army. He was a volunteer fireman and an electrician for the city of Sylvania for 32 years.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Burke Thompson; two daughters, Pam T. Gay and Susan B. Thompson, Sylvannia; a son, Anthony M. Thompson, Sylvania; two sisters Dorothy Grace Mock and Betty Faye Sommers, Savannah; and five brothers, John G. Thompson, Jr., Sylvania, Kelly D. Thompson, Springfield, Bernard L. Thompson, Cedar Key, FL, Lavaughn Thompson, Statesboro, and Donald W. Thompson, Springfield.
