Richard L. Culbert, 81, of Sioux Falls, SD died Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Sioux Valley Centennial Hospice Cottage. Memorial Services have been set for 10:30 a.m Monday, January 9, 2006 at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will begin 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2006 with family present from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and a 4:00 p.m. Masonic Service at Miller Funeral Home 13th & Main. Richard L. Culbert was born November 25, 1924 in Detroit, MI to Omer and Eldo (Crapo) Culbert.

Richard grew up and attended school in Sioux Falls, SD graduating from Washington High School in 1942. He started college at Augustana College and in August 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served with the 99th Infantry. Richard was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart medals while serving in the Army. He was honorably discharged. Richard attended the University of Nebraska, where he received a B.S. degree in Business.

Richard married Patricia Ann Eldridge in Sioux Falls, SD on August 12, 1950. They made their home in Lincoln, NE for several years before returning to Sioux Falls, SD. Along with Donald L. Davis they formed Culbert Davis Company, Insurors in 1959. Richard was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elriad Shrine, 32nd Degree Mason, Scottish Rite, High 12, Rotary, and active in the YMCA. Richard and Patricia were very involved with Sioux Vocational Services.

Richard served on the Board of Directors at Sioux Vocational Services. Patricia passed away on November 17, 1994.C Richard was preceded in death by his parents, wife and sister, Ruth E. Davis. Memorial may be directed to National Alzheimer’s Association.
