Mr. James "Jim" William Dunegan Jr., 67, of rural Danville died at 8:08 p.m. Monday, October 20, 2014, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born August 7, 1947 in Burlington, he was the son of James Sr. and Mary Ann (Gahn) Dunegan. He married Vae Cunningham and they later divorced.
Mr. Dunegan was a 1965 graduate of Burlington High School and attended Ames College and Bacone College in Muskogee, Oklahoma before signing with the Chicago Cubs where he played as a pitcher and a right fielder. After living in Arizona for many years he moved back to Iowa where he worked for Carl A. Nelson Co.
Survivors include three sisters, Chris (Tim) Bernhart of Burlington, Deb (Jeff) Vierling of Mediapolis and Ronda McGowan of Muscatine; daughter, Von Eighmy of Charlotte, North Carolina; son, Adam McCabe of Burlington; six grandchildren; aunt, Jeanette (Kenny) Mehaffy of Cedar Rapids; special brothers, Jim (Karen) Polen and Dave (Debi) Bouge; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Shana Cae Dunegan.
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Dunegan will be 2 p.m. Thursday, October 23rd, at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating. Inurnment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends from noon until the time of service on Thursday.
A memorial has been established.
Cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel.
