Earl Lavoy (Lefty) Howell, 81, born September 18, 1933 in Dickens County, passed away on October 20, 2014 at the Kent County Nursing Home.

Lefty was son of Hubert and Lois Howell and graduated from Patton Springs High School in 1950. He was a cowboy most of his life and worked on various ranches and feed lots throughout Texas. He was also proud to have served his county in the US Army from 1954 – 1956. As a man of God, his strong faith led him to become an active member in his local church. Lefty was a dedicated family man and friend who inspired everyone he came in contact with.

Earl married Willie Mae Nelson on March 27, 1954 and had two children, Penny and Ervin. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two brothers, E.P. and Darrell, as well as his daughter, Penny Chisum.

He is survived by his son Ervin Howell and his wife Johnnie of Roby, son-in-law George Chisum of Jayton; three brothers, Vaughn, Joe, and Gary; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Zapata Funeral Home in Spur on Thursday, 23rd from 6:00 – 8:00 pm. Memorial Service in Sweetwater at Highland Heights United Methodist Church at 10:00 am Friday following with graveside service at Red Mud Cemetery in Spur at 3:00 pm. Meet at the funeral home to go to the cemetery.
