On March 4, 1950, Lloyd was united in marriage to the love of his life, Florence Pauline Hedrick at the Crocker Assembly of God Church. They were blessed with two daughters: Christine and Anita Ann. For the next 64 years, Lloyd and Pauline raised their family and worked side by side.
Lloyd loved farming. He began working on the farm with his father as a young boy. At the age of 9, he was walking behind a plow pulled by a horse. He continued farming, sowing row crops, and raising a variety of animals, mainly Angus cattle (a cow-calf operation). In 1966, Lloyd was employed by USDA, working closely with farmers, helping them benefit from agricultural programs available through the Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service. He was well respected throughout the community for his knowledge of agriculture and cattle.
He was also very knowledgeable about farm machinery. Farmers would often ask him to come and help them with a baler or a tractor or some other piece of equipment that they were having problems with. He lived and worked hard on the farm and at the same time, he would gladly take time out to help others.
Another passion of Lloyd’s was music. He loved to play his guitar and sing. He often took his guitar with him to someone’s home where there were musicians gathered. Lloyd, Pauline, Chris and Anita often sang as a quartet at their church. He would also sing his favorite songs solo. It was not uncommon for him to serenade Pauline while she cooked breakfast.
His love for his family was evident to everyone who knew him. He wanted his daughters to get a college education. Education was very important to him and he did everything he could to encourage his girls to further their education.
Lloyd loved to sit on the back porch with his family and friends, just visiting and enjoyed Pauline’s flowers. He had a great love for the Lord and it was evident in the way he treated his family and friends.
Lloyd went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 21, 2014 in the Boone County Hospital of Columbia, Missouri having attained the age of 85 years.
Lloyd leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Pauline of the home; two daughters, Phyllis Christine Zweerink of Swedeborg, MO and Anita Ann Davis – Crawford (Dennis) of Evans, GA; 2 grandchildren: Thomas Jefferson Davis (Mary) of Evans, GA and Jesse Rae Buccafusco (Marty) of Brooklyn, NY; 4 great-grandchildren: Mason James, Emma Grace and Patrick Blake Davis and Augustus Long Buccafusco; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Lloyd was preceded in death by one sister, Phyllis Geneva Thornsberry.
