Francis “Fritz” D. Menacher of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin passed away Saturday, October 18, 2014 at the age of 95. He was born on September 26, 1919 in Stephenson, Michigan to Ella (nee Thoune) and Max Menacher.
A longtime resident of Stephenson, he was a member of the Precious Blood Church, serving as an altar boy, singing in the choir and as a parish council member. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in April 1942. He served at various military locations in the U.S. and separated from active duty in March 1946 with the rank of Captain. He further served his country in the Air Force Reserves until September 1955 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Major. Fritz retired as President of the Bank of Stephenson and was a member of the Board of Directors. He was past President of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan Bankers Association, longtime City Clerk of the City of Stephenson, Charter member of the Stephenson Volunteer Fire Department, Secretary of the Stephenson Housing Commission, past member of the Menominee County Planning Commission and served two terms on the Stephenson Board of Education as secretary. Fritz was also a member of the Godfrey Anderson American Legion Post 43 and Past Commander of the Post, and a member of the Stephenson Lions Club.
Fritz is survived by his children Maxine (Tony) Witkus of Menomonee Falls, Roberta Nicosia of Arlington Heights, IL, Marie (James) Hernigle of Menomonee Falls and Thomas (Wendy) Menacher of East Lansing, MI. He is further survived by 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Lorraine Voelker.He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Marjorie (nee Voelker) and his dear daughter Carol Ann. Fritz was also preceded in death by his brothers John, Rupert and Edward.
A funeral mass will be held at noon on Friday, October 24, 2014 at Precious Blood Church in Stephenson, MI with Father Ron Timock officiating. Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 11:45 am before Mass at the Anderson Diehm Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Stephenson Township Cemetery with Military Honors.
