Phillip A. Kennedy, Sr.

AGE: 82 • Wilmington

Phillip A. Kennedy, Sr., 82, of Wilmington, Delaware, peacefully passed away at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 18, 2014.

Phillip was born in Wilmington on October 6, 1932, son of the late James and Sara (Fisher) Kennedy. A veteran of the United States Navy, he proudly served our country during the Korean War. Phillip was employed with Delmarva Power, participated in the company bowling league, and retired after 40 years of dedicated service. He was a social member of the Elsmere Fire Company and was a past member of the softball team. He was an avid Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan, and also enjoyed Delaware Park.

His beloved wife of 56 years, Harriett (Strecker) Kennedy, passed away on March 24, 2013.

Phillip is survived by his children, Phillip Jr., Paula Wilson (Alan), Patti Still (Harry), Pamela Giles (David), Patrick (Stacey), John (Dori), Annmarie Cuomo (Jimmy) and Joe; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his lifelong friend, Mike Gonsalves.

Phillip was predeceased by his granddaughters, Amanda Giles, Angel Garrett and Erin Giles; his great grandson, Wesley Aaron; his brother, James Kennedy; and his sisters, Joan Kennedy and Mary McKelvey.

The family would like to thank the staff of Vitas Hospice, especially LaShondra, Sara, Jackie, McKay and Moses, for the loving care and compassion given to Phillip.

Family and friends are invited to visit at the Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Road, Pike Creek on Sunday, October 26 from 3:00-5:00PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, October 27 at 11:00AM. Interment, with military honors, will follow in the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Phillip may be made to Vitas Hospice, 100 Commerce Drive, #302, Newark, DE 19713 or the Erin M. Giles Memorial Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 10766, Wilmington, DE 19805.
