Ann Marie Perkins, 72, of Pittsburg NH and Brewster MA, passed away on Saturday October 18th. She was surrounded by her loving family and the wonderful staff at Pleasant Bay Rehabilitation Center. Born on April 30th, 1942, Ann Marie was raised in Springfield MA. She was one of five children born to Anne E. (Beaudoin) and George C. Lewis. She was proud of both her parents, her mother being a surgical nurse and her father working for the US Postal Service. After graduating Classical High School in Springfield MA, she worked for the telephone company as an operator. She eloped with Richard B. Perkins and they were married on December 2nd 1960. They began their life together in Groton CT at the New London Naval Submarine Base. She had the difficulty of watching her husband go off on 3-month deployments with very little time together in between. After her husbands discharge from the submarine service they started the next chapter in their lives by buying their first home in Ludlow MA. They then moved to Springfield, spent most of their 53 years of marriage together in Brewster and Orleans on Cape Cod, and finally ended up moving to Pittsburg, NH. After trying for several years she was finally blessed with three sons; Richard B. Perkins Jr, Joseph P. Perkins, and Mark T. Perkins. She loved being pregnant and considered that to be the happiest time of her life. She was also survived by her two beloved grandchildren, Alex L. Perkins and Gabrielle R. Perkins, children of Mark T. Perkins and Kristin M. (Francis) Perkins. Ann Marie dedicated her life to her family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and aunt. She was known for sending cards, for all occasions, to all of her family. She found joy in everyones babies and loved shopping for baby clothes and toys (even making them sometimes). Her hobbies included being a den mother for the cub scouts, fishing, rug making, doll making, watching scary movies with large buckets of popcorn, eating ice cream with her grandchildren, and laughing. She traveled the world extensively with her family. She had many adventures and was happy to experience different cultures, often going off the beaten path. She also had a great love of animals, having had numerous pets throughout her life. She loved recounting stories of her capuchin monkey (Chico) that she had for years as a young girl. Throughout her life she always had a pet, and she frequently visited animals at the local shelter. Visiting hours will be held from 4p-7p on Thursday October 23, 2014 at Nickerson Funeral Home, 77 Eldredge Park Way, Orleans, MA. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Friday, October 24th at Our Lady of the Cape Catholic Church in Brewster. Burial will follow in Brewster Lower Road Cemetery.
