LOWELL, MI- SHARI (Benninghoff) MILLER of Lowell MI died Nov 6, 2005 in Grand Rapids MI after a hard-fought battle with breast cancer. Mrs Miller was superintendent of Lowell Area Schools.
She was born in 1950 in Hicksville Ohio to Wayne and Eleanore Benninghoff.
She worked with her parents and three sisters on their family farm. She was named valedictorian at Eastside High School in Butler and went on to attend Indiana University Bloomington where she graduated with honors. She received her master of arts degree from St Francis College, Fort Wayne, and returned to Indiana University to pursue a doctoral degree. She taught Spanish and English at Hicksville High School and at Snider High School in Fort Wayne. She served for two years as the president of the Fort Wayne Education Association. After teaching for 25 years she became an assistant principal at Northrop High School in Fort Wayne. She went on to serve as an assistant superintendent in North Newton IN and then as the deputy superintendent in Lansing MI. For the past three years she was the superintendent of Lowell Area Schools.
Surviving are her husband, Ned Miller; a daughter and son-in-law; a son and daughter-in-law; a grandson; three sisters and brothers-in-law; and an aunt, Ruth Darcy. Services were conducted Nov 9 in the Performing Arts Center of Lowell High School.
