Catherine was first married to Jachomar Coen who died in 1856 leaving her with three children: Lucy Jane, Robert Burns and John William Coen. Jachomar was listed on a Coen Family Memorial stone in the Lantz Cemetery near Brave, PA

According to Bates, "History of Greene Co., Pennsylvania", published in 1888", Catherine died when the roof of a porch under construction fell on her while she was living in Center Township.
