Mr. Stephen J. Ball, 41, of North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, formerly of Allen Street, Meshoppen, passed away suddenly at the Tyler Memorial Hospital, Tunkhannock, on Tuesday morning, Dec. 13, 2005. He was born Jan. 25, 1964, in Meshoppen, Pa., a son of Jean M. (Warren) Ball, and the late Joseph G. Ball, who passed away on May 3, 1997. Stephen was a graduate of Elk High School, class of 1982, and later graduated from Millersville University in 1989. For the past 16 years, he has been employed as a certified nuclear medical technician at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was a member of the Meshoppen Untied Methodist Church, the South Auburn Grange 1188, the Meshoppen Rod and Gun Club, and he was an associate member of the Rought Hall Post 150 American Legion, Black Walnut. For many years, he was a member of the Wyoming Country Red Cross Disaster Relief Team. Stephen was also an honorary member of the Meshoppen Volunteer Fire Department, Station 2, very active with their fund raising and helping with all of their chicken barbecues. In his time with family, he enjoyed his nieces and nephews. Surviving are his mother, Jean M. Ball, Meshoppen; a sister Laura J. (Jay) Lane, Jenningsville, Pa.; two brothers Michael J. Ball, Meshoppen; Frank W. (Patricia) Ball, West Chester; two nieces; two nephews; a great-niece; a great-nephew; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Besides his father, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents Frank and Anna Ball; maternal grandparents Charles and Sarah Warren; and an aunt Grace Ball. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday from the Meshoppen United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Sandra Yerton of the Church officiating. Interment will be at the convenience of the family at the South Auburn Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Meshoppen, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17. In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the Meshoppen United Methodist Church, the Meshoppen Volunteer Fire Department, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
