EBENEZER6 COE (Dea. Joseph5, Capt. Joseph4, Capt. John3, Robert2, Robert1), born at Middletown, CT, July 19, 1755, was a soldier in the Revolution. From July 12, 1775, to Sept. 29, 1775, he served in Capt. William Hubbell's company, Col. Samuel Webb's militia regiment, stationed on the Connecticut coast. He immediately re-enlisted as sergeant in Capt. Elihu Hubbard's company, Col. The regiment then went to New York and on Aug. 27, 1776, was in the battle of Long Island where the American army commanded by Gen. Putnam was badly defeated. In this battle Ebenezer Coe was captured by the British and imprisoned in an old sugar house in New York City, but he managed to escape and returned to his home at Middlefield, CT. (Report of Adj.-Gen. of Conn., pp. 83, 102.)

About 1777 Ebenezer Coe removed to New Jersey where he lived in New Market, Succasunna, Randolph Township, Morris Township, and other places near Morristown, and served also in the New Jersey forces in the Revolution. (New Jersey Soldiers in the Revolution, p. 463.) On Feb. 11, 1833, Ebenezer Coe, aged seventy-nine, of Morris Co., NJ, was pensioned for service in the Revolution as sergeant in the Conn. Line. (U. S. Pension Rolls.)
