He was born in Altoona, son of Thomas N. and Helen (Goshorn) Caldwell. He married Carol Neely on April 8, 1961, at Zion Lutheran Church, Hollidaysburg.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years; a son, George (Brenda) of Duncansville; two daughters: Debra and Patricia, both of Duncansville; and special friends of the family: David George of Harrisburg and John George of Duncansville.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas N. III, on July 8, 1994.
Gary was a graduate of Lawton High School in Oklahoma. He was a manager at Jamesway and then retired from United Refining Kwik Fill in 2003. He was a member of the NRA and Frankstown Sportsmen's Association. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed spending time with his family and at his camp.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2014, at Plank, Stitt & Stevens Funeral Home, 421 Montgomery St., Hollidaysburg, where a funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, by Pastor Greg Harbaugh. Interment will be at Carson Valley Cemetery.
The family requests that donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312, in memory of Gary.
