BLUE MOUNTAIN – Delores Scott Cummings, 82, died Thursday, October 16, 2014, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born on November 29, 1931, in Memphis, Tenn. to the late Roland Scott and Wilda Griffin Scott Baylis.
She retired after 41 years of teaching in the South Tippah School District. She received her B.S. degree from Rust College and Master's degree from the University of Mississippi.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Edsel A. Cummings; one son, Erskine Cummings, Sr., one daughter, Rosalind Brown (husband, Lee); four grandchildren, Erskine Cummings, Jr., Kimberly Cummings Hatch (husband, Sebastian), Margaritta Jackson (husband, Rodney) and Ashley Brown; ten siblings: Marlene Scott of Duluth, Ga., Joyce Cox and Markis Baylis (Marilyn) of Columbia, Mo., Royce Baylis (Carrie) of Cleveland, Ohio, Fern Ann Leake (Jay) of Madison, Tenn., Griffin Baylis (Dimple) of Anaheim, Calif., Ralph Scott of Memphis, Tenn., Buford Baylis (Maggie), Barbara Baylis and Beverly Baylis, all of Ripley.
Visitation will be from noon until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Foster and Son Funeral Home. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at St. Paul UMC. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Burial will be in Ripley Cemetery.
