Larry A. Kauffman, 51, Kansas City, MO, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at home. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 7, at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd.; burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7:30 p.m. Monday at D.W. Newcomer's Sons Stine & McClure Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Larry 's memory to Hope House, Inc., P.O. Box 520409, Independence, MO 64052.
Mr. Kauffman was a member of the Kansas City Royals' board of directors and the son of the late Royals owner, Ewing M. Kauffman.
Larry was an entrepreneur with an avid personal and professional interest in baseball. He owned and operated the Kauffman Baseball Academy in south Kansas City, which offers young people instruction in baseball and softball. A lifelong resident of the KC area, Kauffman graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, MO, in 1964, and served for three years in the United States Army. He was in the construction business for nearly 15 years, then owned an automotive parts and repair business in Peculiar, MO, for seven years.
Recently, he had been in the excavating business.
Larry served on the board of directors of the Muriel McBrien Kauffman Foundation.
He was a major supporter of Hope House, Inc. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and working on his farm south of Kansas City. Survivors include his wife, Nancy, sons, John, George, and Cory Kauffman, and daughter, Lisa Volkert, all of the Kansas City area; four grandchildren, Michael, Elizabeth, and Adam Volkert, and Jeremy Kauffman; two sisters, Julia Irene Kauffman, Mission, KS, and Sue Kauffman Coons, Scottsdale, AZ; and two cousins, Bill and Alex Jianas, Monarch Beach, CA.
