Victoria Byrd Betts of South Charleston died Feb. 11, 2004, in Valley Center. She was born March 24, 1915, in Braxton County, the eldest child of the late Henry Guy and Ethel Prince Byrd. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David M. Betts; three brothers; and one sister. She was a homemaker and, during World War II, she was a civilian employee of the Navy at South Charleston Naval Ordnance Plant where she was a gun barrel inspector. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church, South Charleston. Surviving: sons, William of Ashland, Ky., Norman of South Charleston.
